It happens in smaller ways

Dubstep is more recent example (though somewhat tamer)

Theres a direct line from Skream, Mala, Four Tet, Burial, James Blake to Rusko/Caspa and then to Skrillex (and now to Fred Again)

and the fact that it broke into the mainstream - hard to imagine something like that happening these days
