I have never heard a compelling case. Growth makes humanity better off. Degrowth is a luxury fantasy of the already rich.

Not a fan of degrowth, but it IS the only economic model of the future that doesn’t rely on the gambling assumption of perpetually solving scarcity problems with technological breakthroughs.

Though, I disagree with the idea completely that we should stop trying to grow. I’ll try: If we can convince all humans to live in peace, share resources among one another based on needs, recycle as much as possible, share knowledge of resource conservation. I’d be satisfied if this is the world we lived in.

Does this count as degrowth? We have horrible efficiencies right now with allocation of human capital and energy/capital. So without ‘growth’ in population and gdp we can realize better standard of living for all while reducing emissions and strengthening local community just by making creativity more efficient
