Moved back to Bavaro from Constanza. I’d been looking for a new apartment for a while since I was sick of living with my roommate—an idiot and a drug addict. I finally found a place, but there was an unresolved issue with paying for electricity. Back then, I had no idea where or how to pay for it, and, for some reason, I didn’t bother figuring it out. As a result, I ended up owing my roommate about 3,000 pesos.
Most of my friends there had this weird habit of collecting coins and tossing them into a bowl near their door. So, I thought, ‘Hey, wouldn’t it be funny to pay the 3,000 pesos entirely in 1-peso coins?’ Haha. To my surprise, it didn’t take me long to gather 3,000 coins. I stuffed them all into an old sock, left it on the table with a note, and moved out.
Dominicans aren’t big fans of being paid in small coins, but, well, that wasn’t my problem anymore! 2 replies
