Thinking a lot lately about how we’ve turned blockchains into a religious concept.

When something is religious its assumed to be true as a whole. It no longer becomes socially acceptable to dissect its individual pieces and tradeoffs.

Current theory is the regulatory persecution we’ve gone through as an industry was a major driver. Persecutions breed zealots and an overall “if you’re not with us you’re against us” mentality. It also creates martyrs (tornado cash developers). We saw this with AI and the e/acc movement when it looked like that industry was going to be regulated.

Couple that with the constant bear markets as another form of persecution especially since we’re dependent on one another’s faith to stay afloat as a whole (“I won’t sell if you don’t sell”).

Overall it creates a very toxic environment that’s effective for survival but not innovation. Maybe with the new regulatory environment we’ll break through.
