Conferences - good or bad for early companies?

I have heard various comments on this from “Founders don’t belong at conferences unless too they have found PMF” to “It’s the best way to meet prospects”

I tend to lean towards high signal uses of time which is a bit less formal on one path or another.  Small groups and 1:1s FTW!

Yeah I tend to agree. I think the pre-PMF comment is really saying you have nothing else to focus on before that, so being out trying to sell or evangelize doesn’t make sense beforehand.

I think it depends — the right ones can be great for networking (side events mostly) but large booth activations may not be worth it. Some speaking gigs are good use of time; most likely aren’t. Strategically selecting the right places to be is important I think. 

But I think trying to buy pmf is a waste— I do agree with that thought (large flashy booth at massive events etc)
