Question: do we really need message history for all digital communications? It seems like the default for most chat/comms apps (with the exception of FC DCs). IRL interactions often have no history or record except what we remember

I like being able to look through past convos on messaging apps. Have gotten annoyed when I look back and the messages are gone

There's two types (I think): sync chat that is literally in the moment, and intentionally ephemeral; and async chat that is basically better UI than email but serves the same purpose

We need more of the former in our digital interaction, and agreed making the latter ephemeral is annoying
