Usually the fun in a homelab is starting with a problem you want to solve like moving away from cloud subscriptions via NAS, more capable home networking, home automation, etc. What’s a service your devices could benefit from having access to? Do you have any media you want to access remotely or share with friends?

i set it up with the intention of running some backend services on it like indexers. the process can run in my apartment but save data to a remote db so the end product isn't slower. could shave maybe $50/month off my railway bill but open to getting nerdsniped on other things in the process lol

Most common use case I think is a NAS. If you’re into smart home stuff there’s HomeAssistant. Can be paired with local LLMs and voice recognition if you wanna fully escape Alexa/Google Assistant/Siri. Uptime Kuma if you want monitoring. Peep awesome-selfhosted git repo to really get a glimpse of how far the rabbit hole goes. This is my ambitious vision of everything put together: https://warpcast.com/sdv.eth/0xe7f0f091

super late reply but you could coolify your web services as well, something like caddy on a cheap VPS for HTTPS termination and reverse proxy over tailscale to your local, or some kind of docker swarm config maybe. Downside being latency obviously, but saving hundreds in hosting bills per month is pretty nice :)
