Great start, get home assistant running securely on the pi, accessible from other machines on your network. Setup the lights, buy more "Smart Home" stuff, rinse and repeat :) Jokes aside though, I use a Pi-like device for controlling a couple of PoE security cameras, which keeps the last N days of footage on my NAS.
