For me I guess it was the first sort of competitive gaming before we ever had massive online gaming.

I wanted to beat that bastard Gary so badly in Fire Red lol. An of course the gym leaders and Pokémon league. 

Had to not only build a team of Pokémon but also strategize how to counter theirs.
