i spoke to my grandma, my 外婆, last night for the first time since grandpa passed - i'm ngl my first thought when we got the news was concern for her - it feels like an unfathomable transition to lose someone you've woken up next to every day for 60+ years. she told me that after crying her eyes out for days and feeling hopeless, she realized she still had so much to live for - 3 children, 5 grandchildren, her faith - and that despite her age / declining health she was going to "跳出来", which directly translates to something like "jump out". i'm interpreting it as "get back up and live life". we thought she was too frail to embark on int'l travel but not only does she want to come back to the US, she even wants to visit me and @briang in nyc for the first time -- from china!!! i was blown away, that's a full 24 hr travel day that i barely feel like i could do anymore, and the woman is 89 !!!!!!! it's honestly crazy to see that kind of mental and physical resilience in these moments. <3

60 years with a person. Can’t imagine, that’s literally a part of your brain dying. Like you dying. A day of travel. I think about a 5 hr flight these days and I’m like, ehhh, I don’t really want to lmao
