@briang and my grandpa passed away yesterday, he was 90 years old and the most badass person I've ever known - surviving the cultural revolution, communist china, raising 8 kids in rural anhui as a carpenter with barely any high school education, and those kids going on to become professors, doctors, architects etc.

It definitely is. 

In a lot of ways you’re on your own even if you’re not actually technically on your own (just because of the nature of adulthood)
