The other day I asked Robin Hanson is he has thought about other names for prediction markets as I think “markets” misleads people on how the mechanism works. And he commented that initially it was supossed to be called: idea futures. I prefer betted oracles or precogs as alternatives for mass adoption.

i'll be honest: though they sound alluring, prediction markets is much more open to mass adaption—depending on the definition of "mass" here though. i'd prefer idea futures, too, since now and then i see the exact terms either in my own pieces or by others re: idea markets. have you told about these betted oracles or precogs to Hanson? i wonder how he reacted.

Why do you think PMs is better as a concept? Probably a big part of the anti-corporate world will react against it, even if it doesn't have everything to do with stock markets. As expected, he wasn't very excited about renaming. From his PoV, someone would be too bold to try to contender a concept that has been around for so long (and implicitly its author).
