This is a great review of Nate Silver’s On The Edge by Zvi. A typical pitfall of reviews of this book is to get fixated (and upset) about the River-Village dichotomy. Zvi realizes that Trump and his movement are of neither, and digs into the implications. https://open.substack.com/pub/thezvi/p/book-review-on-the-edge-the-fundamentals

I think YLC allows Meta to recruit and run a curmudgeonly second AI lab as a hedge against LLMs being a dead end.

The fact that crypto has such early monetization makes it hard to keep focus in any non-financial project. DeFi? Aligned and fine. DeSci? No way.

Do we need strong parties so that elites select capable candidates?

He’ll be the R nominee for as long as he wants to be. He’s completely captured, and even expanded, the R base of elite-haters. Every other R candidate is an elite almost by definition.

I agree. I come here maybe once a week to seen if @vgr or @vitalik.eth has said anything interesting. Otherwise, all of the good stuff is on the bird app.

Think Tanks are where you store your administration executives while your party is out of power. So, Project 2025 isn’t really a playbook for a second Trump administration. But the people who wrote it are waiting in the wings to staff that administration.

I guess what I’m saying is that if Kamala wins, there’s hope for crypto. But if there is, it’s going to look procedural, bureaucratic, and institutional.

I wouldn’t be so sure. That could be code for “start opening gaps (e.g. with the CFTC, tokenization of tradfi) while keeping the Elizabeth Warren wing placated.” If Kamala is going to do something for crypto, it’s going to be incremental, institutional, glacial, and mind numbingly boring.

No. It all sounds like ChatGPT slop. Too long, too much context, no pith.

It makes a bit more sense how older CNNs could work on 32x32 images.

We get these from time to time, and they’re never meaningfully large. It’s actually quite difficult for Earth to capture a moon because of how close we are to the sun. Anyway, Wikipedia has a list of the ones we’ve detected: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temporary_satellite

Nothing. It’s a very small object. About the size of large communication satellite, and much farther out.

Numbers are a good first filter for trash/excellence, but there’s no good next level of detail. Reviews are too specific to their authors, and I don’t want to read 50 of them to get a good sample.
