I quit a large audience on Twitter and joined Farcaster a year ago as a direct replacement. I didn't know Varun or Dan, and indeed, anyone else active on Farcaster at the time. While "the list" made sense early on, it should be opt-in recommendations now - the engagement inequality is very real. This is made worse by the hyperfinancialization, where a handful of those people are incentivized to be very active, while a vast majority of the rest are bots. (IMO, as a casual observer nowadays) Farcaster right now should be aggressively focused on social values over financial values (and yes, this is a very direct contradiction and trade-off) - in design, engineering, and most importantly marketing. Unless the terminal addressable market target is degens, which is fair enough.

I think it can be both financial and social….the amazing part for me on the degen front has been actually meeting and interacting with artists and builders and yes, rewarding them with Degen tips. I have also made real connection with people. Had real policy debates. Learned about new innovations in blockchain. And shared parenting advice. We need a sustainable model but need to embrace how unique this place is and how diverse the user base is.

I agree, can be both. I’ve joined in the past three months, had more meaningful conversations here than on X EVER. Or any TradSoMe for that matter. I see the abundance of tipping coins, bots, farmers etc. I’m confident that, as more creators arrive, quality content will drive out the noise. If the engagement here remains at the current level, more and more people will come here. (For what it’s worth, that’s my feeling and prediction)
