I think it’s also in part because before a lot of companies used to provide or subsidize phones and have stopped. Also if you go to Europe they really use the old phones for a long time. I know personally would change phones every other year and stuff. Still using the iPhone 11.

probably because 1) people use their phones for longer (no visible improvement in new models like iphone 3GS - 7, and phones are simply better) 2) adoption rate is already high also QoQ sales look pretty stable for the last 4 years

Market saturation? Tangentially related just learned how predatory some of these “free iphone with xyz plan” are - consumers end up paying 40% more over the lifetime of the contract vs taking a similar prepaid plan and buying the phone outright

and the visualization choice on the right is very poor imo, they could just use a bar chart of “% of AI funding in total VC deal amount” and maybe a line chart of the same thing with the deal count

Makes complete sense, given that phone cycles increased to about 3-4 years for the majority of people. I used to change iPhone every year, and now I change it every 2 years at least

I think we hit peak smartphone saturation globally. Everyone has one. From rich to poor (almost). In some countries the average per capita is more than 1... which is insane, but believable. Hence why manufacturers are trying new form factors and even entirely new product categories now. Fun times ahead.
