5 years from now, Meta's investment in VR/AR will be looked as a a master move

The risks of AR/VR not working are too high, and Meta’s core business is getting destroyed by Apple. Building a massive business on the backs of hardware is soo hard - only really Apple and Tesla have done it. It has to be a product category that almost 100% of people need/want

My money is on Meta because of how well they executed with Portal and I saw how good they are internally when I was working on the ads team. But I agree it is a huge risk. Will see how this pans out!

Interesting! I had the opposite experience lol, worked on different product teams from 2014-2016 and thought there was a lot of dysfunction, bad incentives and politics

To be fair, I was there in 2012 and Boz was leading a very small ads team. So you def have a more representative experience

I'm surprised you think they executed well with Portal given it's going to be discontinued (https://www.theinformation.com/articles/meta-scales-back-ar-glasses-plan-amid-reality-labs-shakeup) and they sold less than a million units last year

Didn't realize they are moving towards businesses. Just learened about this. Everyone that got a portal really liked the product from what I heard. But interesting to learn their strategy change here!
