right now, the largest accounts—those with 300k+ followers—receive roughly the same amount of likes as accounts with 50k followers; this is a problem if we continue to add bots at current pace, there will be accounts here with 1M+ followers receiving <50 likes per cast if this happens, it will most certainly be the death of the network as a “ghost town” narrative will form & ultimately takeover too many games & protocols have succumbed to the same future not to make this the #1 priority right now so, fuck the dau figures; fuck the vanity following figures; we must kill the bots & cleanse the network imo, this becomes an existential risk if it’s not already

yeah, require a social security to sign up (kidding) or biometrics? (cc worldcoin) (also kidding) (kind of) i don’t know that anything can be done about it retrospectively - unless you wanna go against the permissionless/decentralization whataboutism, which tbh, at this point in network maturity, i think is fine network health need be prioritized over growth or new features there’s need to be a massive fc-issued and/or even base-subsidized bounty on the anti-bot/identity front i don’t know too much about the newest tech in that realm but we’ve had to made some kind of progress in the last 5 years if fc could build a bot-proof social graph, every single app would lift it & fc would unstoppable & even become critical to crypto at large ngl, i wouldn’t be opposed to biometrics if the data was encrypted and stored/called from in a decentralized way again, idk too much abt identity, but the solution is out there & exists today; we just need to make it work here

Conclusion: it's super difficult and maybe impossible with current technology? You'd expect a company like X to be able to eliminate their bot issues. But even they can't. But yeah, Farcaster should allocate their massive, humungous treasury they've accumulated from investors to fight bots. Though, I think it's not necessarily an existential problem like you say. Farcaster in many ways is already a better social media experience now than traditional SM like Facebook, X, Instagram.

Ironically, it seems that X’s bot problem has only gotten worse The blackbox verified checkmark at least helped differentiate signal from noise but now it just feels like all noise The verification system was far from perfect but I think the lack of any merit-based badge/verification system today is worse digital identity is a hard problem that nobody has really cracked at meaningful scale

Exactly. i got a feeling it's gonna get way worse before it gets better. (duh) LLM bots are already here and they're almost funny I have a hunch that Blockchain will play a part in the compromise solution that will hopefully be found in the future.
