Are people still claiming Google’s days might be numbered? 

Finding myself using the AI overview above search results for most queries I would have asked Claude a few months ago and it currently has the best model.

You don't think they took their sweet ass time to offer this? And it's not that impressive is it?

It usually gives me the info I need. The big advantage is it’s free and doesn’t require changing existing search habits.

For many queries, people want to dig further after getting a summary. They might have been sleeping a little recently but buying deepmind shows they saw most of this coming.

I think it's useful but not impressive, and it goes against their whole business model. If all im looking for is the AI overview at the top, why even show me the other results? No one’s been clicking through multiple search pages for years anyway.

Google got caught sleeping on its own innovation. It just proves that even giants can be made to dance - Google, Apple, all of them.

That said, the AI overview does help stop some of the bleeding. I’ll give them that

the search result form is more helpful too, because you can easily dive into sources. AI summarizes but doesn't provide the source.
