kaz this is missing the point. “ai artists” don’t train models while taking 100% of the credit on the “art” produced. the ai is the artist not the one who clicked “generate”.

I think of it more like sampling in music. It’s possible to imbue the new work with genuine creativity, but if you’re not crediting or compensating the original artists you’re exploiting them.

And the ethical responsibility clearly lies at the feet of the model trainers, but without strict gov regulation with high penalties, they’re never going to seriously accept that responsibility imho.
