Nearly every Elon tweet lately is an advertisement for decentralized social. His takeover of X is the main reason I became a daily Farcaster user. There are likely millions of users there who want to leave for the same reason but don't know where to go.

on the free speech issue, do you think his banning of the jet location guy outweighs everyone that was previously banned and got restored? just trying to understand how the musk takeover's been a step backwards for freedom of speech.

Well I also think free speech absoluism is a childish idea. We all have limited attention, and lies travel faster than facts, so unlimited speech means unlimited ability to steal other people’s time, which limits their speech. Elon has personally spread a lot of conspiracy theory BS in addition to bringing back professional grifters so I don’t think he has improved free speech at all.

ok sure i'm just trying to understand how banning the jet tracker guy is a blow to free speech and a top 3 reason why you don't like X. is it maybe the hypocrisy in it?

I don't really care about the jet tracker guy. Care more about booting journalists at trusted orgs and him demanding his own deranged tweets get boosted. I would likely still be there if its design was like farcaster and his power was limited to one client, the network was forkable, etc.
