There was this idea going around Reddit that if you make a billion dollars, there’s a formal ceremony where you receive a medal and a certificate that says, “congratulations, you won capitalism”. Then you get to keep and replenish your billion dollars, but any income above that gets taxed 100%.

Few, if any billionaires have the will power to stop once they reach this threshold. Most billionaires will convince other billionaires that stopping at this number is akin to some warped version of communism. Smart people can wave this false dichotomy off, but then there are those that lack the self esteem and just succumb to peer pressure.
