I have a sense of why the right doesn't like him, but what's the tldr of why he is so unpopular among everyone else?

For me it started in 2015 when he won on promises of electoral reform (moving away from 'first past the post' to 'ranked ballots') and then dropped it after he go in. He's overseen the continuation of a long running and kind of insane housing crisis which can't end well. A big one for most people is that they really dislike the carbon tax, though I am in favor of it if redistributed (which it is). On the ad-hominem side, he generally comes across as smug, self-serving and insincere. He's also on the wrong side of the general move away from insiders (his dad was PM in the 70s).
