frequently people interview to join the company and haven't used the product once. what? i'm so confused by this. I specifically don't ask them to do it because I expect them to do it pro-actively. It weirds me out how little people give a shit.

shocking right? equally weird how many people can't answer the question "why do you want to work for our company?"

It’s hard because they can’t say “I really need to work here for the money”

i hear you i think it might be worth separating the thoughts “i need to work for money” from “i need to work *here* for money” my opinion is that if money is your only reason for wanting to work somewhere you shouldn’t apply to work there at all i understand some people believe they “don’t have a choice” - but the truth is *you do* have a choice, and i believe you should only apply to roles you’d truly love you’ll be more likely to get an offer, more likely to thrive once there, and more likely to solve the money problem too

But working for a 5 person startup makes no sense if that’s you.
