there is clearly a bubbling undercurrent of concern for some deep issues here with the protocol and client—honestly this isn’t anything new

being of blind faith to any side of any discussion of issues is simpleminded and lazy and not the nuanced path I thought we’d all decided was the true ways of the Farside

to be clear

leaving this bubbling undercurrent unaddressed to fester in the shadows and shame will only result in churn of some healthy, quality and valid contributors to this network

sunlight is the best disinfectant

official nuanced discussions need to be held, and asap, @dwr.eth, @v for the future of the network

genuinely trying to understand - what's to discuss?

they're pretty clear about handling bots (some $$$ to stem the massive tide, filter the bots that pay, focusing on user defaults vs power user tools)

they share DAU #s and get slammed regularly

if they shared a qDAU # too they'd also get slammed about defining it?

I like the accounts / users distinction

Farcaster is a protocol, as long as its rules are followed it intentionally makes no distinction 

users are a subjective subset of this that might map to unique human beings or unique human beings who’s content I don’t think is spammy or some other definition

But you work with creators, and creators need accurate data/stats. You have 160k followers, does it not matter to know if they are real or not? 

If I go and tell someone to join FC and point that we have 348k users, but more than 50% are farmers/spammers, does that not matter?

but honestly probably not "useful enough" that i would want to ask an entrepreneur to do double accounting forever on an arbitrary + moving target that most people will never be happy with lol

building shit is hard and making dan tapdance w metrics for us doesn't really improve Farcaster imo 🤷‍♂️
