Interesting channel data in this article by @sidshekhar. I believe the network is increasingly favoring the path of crypto-native sub-communities, which means there's much work ahead if we hope to encourage people who are new to crypto to consider launching communities on Farcaster.

I think whats hard for people to grasp is that both audiences can be catered to on the protocol. Someone can build a web2 like experience on FC using the @thirdweb SDK that abstracts away the wallet aspect, while crypto native people can continue to experience it their way, unabated

I agree with you, the protocol can support both audiences, but the data says that most of the activity is happening in crypto native sub communities.

I gather thats because: a) It was built around a crypto audience to begin with b) Up until recently, the tools to cater to non-crypto audiences on the protocol didn't really exist, so the data isn't there in the same way

There is no shortage of channels, 6091 of them to be exact, but the buzz has been focused on degen (memetokens) + frames. We also know that things can change fast around here so maybe we'll see more traction with non-crypto audiences and id love to see the data supporting that.
