We need a protocol similar to Farcaster that can serve as home for all the new music being produced worldwide. Imagine all the cool music clients that devs could build. Seems like the only way to truly break free from the monopolistic control exercised by Spotify, YouTube, Apple, and major record labels.

This feels like a solution searching for a problem. I feel like this has been solved. What am I missing. The way to break free is to stop renting music. Buy it in digital or physical form. It’s yours. You can rip it, share it, burn it or whatever.

I think there’s already a few good protocols addressing this (Zora, Sona, Sound etc.) Releasing your music onchain means you can stream and purchase on a variety of interfaces with no platform lock in including FutureTape (@fascinated) and Spinamp

Spotify and Apple, and to some extent YouTube and Amazon, take care of marketing and promotion for musicians. How would you solve that? How do I discover new music that I love?

Is spinamp.xyz the closest thing we have to this?

1/ There is no better decentralised storage network for music than Audius. Audius has in-built economic incentives for nodes to store music-related data. Put simply, nodes are rewarded for storing music files. One reason Farcaster nodes and Audius nodes are different is because they store different kinds of data.
