I still don’t really understand channels. Should I default to using one? Only if it’s super relevant? Is it a way to reach new people? Or to narrow who among your audience it hits?

More than 80% of all casts are made in channels. Your followers should see your cast in their home feed, even if they don't follow the channel you cast in. There's also an option to narrowcast only to channel followers (click “everyone” as shown in screenshot below). In theory, casting in channels should help you reach a larger audience. However, I haven't seen much evidence to support this. Most users primarily engage with their home feed and rarely visit specific channel feeds. I'm also unsure how the Warpcast home feed algo works, so I can't confirm how many users who don't follow you will see your cast if it's made in a channel they follow. In summary, channels currently function more like hashtags but have the potential to evolve into real communities, similar to subreddits or Discord servers.
