I feel like as a platform and a brand they have some sway, but from a technical standpoint, smart contracts make them obsolete. 

But they can still operate in fiat 🤷‍♂️

So from your perspective, smart contracts are the reason Kickstarter is having issues with growth?

I agree that smart contracts are more efficient, but I don’t think that’s what's making them irrelevant. I was excited when I heard about them building on Celo, but I haven't heard any updates in a while, and the article suggests that plan may have failed.

I haven’t read the article yet, but in terms of technology, that would be my guess. 

Smart contracts effectively offer automatic escrow, the whole business prop of kickstarter. 

“Release funds if x condition is met”

But as a platform, they can still provide a good UI that would bring people in 🤷‍♂️
