If I had the type of money to be getting super expensive plastic surgeries, I would be not spending it on that for sure. I’d probably be being generous with it

Yeah, I understand it though... if people live in an area and are completely overwhelmed with messages of how they "should" look, it has to eventually drill right into your psyche.  

I'm not sure what the answers to all this are... I don't think the 'you don't need this' message is really going to break through on platforms that are designed to market products and services to people.

It's super complicated... but I think it all comes down to the fact that we all need each other to survive.

If you live totally isolated from everyone else, you're only one injury away from death, even if the injury just prevents mobility... our survival depends on help from others, and so I think being accepted by our community and not being shunned is very much hardwired into our DNA.

On top of that, we have so much more opportunities available to people who are popular, so I don't blame people for trying their hardest to get those opportunities.

The real question is why are humans so insecure to begin with? What is the root cause? Is it human nature to be insecure? Is it society? Cultural conditioning? Consumerism propaganda? All of the above? It’s complicated.
