depends on the context The reason why you "praise in public, punish in private" is bc for all but the most enlightened/self-assured people, criticism triggers a (pretty reasonable) flight or fight response If your goal is actually constructive change in others, why would you set them up for failure with your tactics?

I think builders should be open to criticism, even when it doesn’t come with solutions. There’s often value in feedback, no matter how negative it may seem, and if you listen, you can find opportunities for growth

Heard & tend to agree. The thing about criticism is that it's not always constructive. Can come off as complaining without an idea for rectifying situation.

i thinks its too easily conflated with not wanting someone to succeed if not explicitly stated otherwise. thats why phrases like 'imo' and 'i may be wrong but,' are useful in public discourses.

I'd be curious to hear what makes you think that. Aren't expectations around feedback mostly cultural? For example, people from Germany can be very direct/upfront/candid, while people from the US prefer balancing positive and negative points. https://erinmeyer.com/books/the-culture-map/ has some good examples and a framework for thinking about these issues.

I see what you did there..publicly criticizing those who suggest private criticism. I think private criticism can be more productive, especially if one hopes to better understand and help. That can be done publicly, but could escalate into something unproductive if the conversation isn't thoughtfully managed.
