Another good approach is to start writing about what you're doing, share it publicly (likely on Twitter since that's where VCs hang) and figure out how to get noticed. It's better to have VCs reaching out to you and the best way to do that is to share new ideas + have interesting things to say.

IMO go look for grants at the stage you’re at - deploy to mainnet get some volume and then go for VC funding 

Grants will also teach you good pitching that you don’t wanna experiment on VCs if contacts there are limited in the first place
