insight from being a parent: kids change really fast relative to us. one thing this brings to light is how slow my psyche and body are to adapt to reality. my son will have been struggling with normal toddler things, like not going down at night or toppling over, but within a matter of weeks he's no longer struggling, but I still feel myself tip toeing after putting him down or wincing that he's going to topple over when he's totally got it.

it seems like our minds and bodies can be months or years behind us. we hold onto things, sometimes as far back as our childhoods. assumptions we made but found out to be wrong still hold their grip on us.
