Can someone please explain to me why I would ever want for apps that I want to be part of my identity a (smart) wallet that’s not connected to my ENS or any of my other onchain history? I don’t want this but everyone is excited about smart wallets that force this

Are you referring to the fact that smart wallets aren’t backwards compatible so you have to create a new one in order to use and benefit from the UX of smart wallets?

It’s understandable to have privacy concerns but the backwards compatibility key is for when you do want something known as part of your identity!
