Can someone please explain to me why I would ever want for apps that I want to be part of my identity a (smart) wallet that’s not connected to my ENS or any of my other onchain history? I don’t want this but everyone is excited about smart wallets that force this

Are you referring to the fact that smart wallets aren’t backwards compatible so you have to create a new one in order to use and benefit from the UX of smart wallets?

if the app is linked to your fc account, you still get the social context while reaping the ux gains

couldn't you just verify this smart wallet to something like farcaster and get connected to onchain history? (im assuming ur ens is connected)

Smart wallets are not for you today. If we get stuck in old ways and history, we'll never grow the pie. Have you tried the smart wallet experience on https://matcha.xyz/? It is elite. Something I can actually have my normie friends do. https://warpcast.com/kyle/0x4ac81454

Agree I think they want to just replace EOAs with smart wallets, so more of a move than a fracture At least smart wallets are more portable than embedded wallets

because your current wallet won't support their smart wallet features.

I’m not a fan either, but I do understand the argument. If we want to onboard normies, traditional wallets aren’t going to do it. I do agree that it should at least be an option to connect an old school wallet. 🤷‍♂️

While I agree thereabouts to a degree, here is a recap of what's going on re: AA, smart wallets, and EOAs: https://docs.zerodev.app/blog/3074-governance

There is no future for EOAs, only smart accounts / smart contract wallets. The endgoal is for you to login to a new app, and connect that to your already existing smart account. Or create a new smart account and decide to connect it / link it later. Everything is much easier when it's all smart contracts.

As politely as I can, this is super short-sighted. Smart wallets aren't for you. Smart wallets are for people that aren't onchain today, that won't pay hundreds of dollars for a username (ENS), that won't bother with a seed phrase, that dgaf about chrome extensions, and that aren't on CT. And they outnumber us.

maybe i’m missing something. this has nothing to do with smart vs EOA. this is a dapp wallet thing. you could have a smart wallet that works as smooth as a dapp wallet and has the qualities you mentioned you’d want that currently your eoa does.
