I thought all I ever wanted was to work remotely, that’s much earlier than covid, but now that I have it, I sometimes struggle with it. I went over the shock of the loss of identity, now I just don’t feel stimulated enough. To be noted that I work from home as a personal consultant — perhaps had I still been interacting within a team things would be different. However, I wouldn’t be running the show on my terms. It’s struggles all the way down, and it’s OK!

I agree, removing accreditation is the latest of the problem for the average American. Improving financial literacy would be have a better total ROI.

We should spearhead a new index that needs to overlap with Lazard-like LCOE. It's not only LCOE - expected price of energy that should drive investments, but also LCOE - "all the things you care as a community" index.

It's the typical unclear messaging of web3. Why, why now, what are the advantages of a "sufficiently decentralized" social media network, all explained with simple practical examples. What's in here for me?

Oh yes. After two years of trying hard to make it work, I give up and I feel free to say that it was a flop. Where to next is the million dollar question. I love the US lived there 15 years and we all are citizens. Larger family lives here in Italy and tough to get back 20 hours door-to-door.

Mine are 5 and 9. Great for the 9 yo, 5 yo was interested in trees, ducks and squirrels. Both hated rush hour tube and general big crowds, but who wouldn't?

This is cool -- would be even cooler if stamping was associated to a physical device as a proof-of-have-been-physically-here. Hard Rock Cafe shirt 3.0

I think about this a lot. Coming of age stories make us taste the seed of freedom, change, quintessential transformation we all have to go through at a certain age. But then we get stuck.

We moved to a small town in Italy for work reasons from the West Coast, and over the weekend we were in London, looked at each other in our eyes and thought: we gotta get out of there. Real life adaptation is really hard on kids, online friendships make it a bit easier on us very online adults, but not quite enough ...

Re:recent trends, they seem to me to be high "entalpy" rather than entropy, contributing yes to the total entropy of the system, but in a way that does not have the universal aspect Scott mentioned. Anyhow, thanks for surfacing that old post, lots to think about.

I think that high-entropy is a confusing term introduced in the essay by Scott. "universal culture" as the culture that adapts to the most convenient norms, technologies and tastes is what I get out of it. Stretching the definition, perhaps "high-free energy" society would be better?
