Announcing the first Farcaster L2: Cast! After working 6 years on Meta infra for 3 billion users, I knew Farcaster proliferation had to be cheaper - we built it. Cast today has ~500,000 messages external to Farcaster, with ~30,000 .cast handles, only costing $0.39/year on OP!

Looking forward to diving deep into this. Wondering why it would be necessary to have a cheaper L2 for FC instead of having an app layer that can cover the cost of the user's storage units at this stage.

Mentioned elsewhere when we soft launched this in September, Farcaster was invite-only, and we had 100,000 users asking for a client, serving an immediate need :) Even today, protocol fees aren't guaranteed to be $7 forever. I'm also not sure app unit economics can return $7 immediately, haven't seen that in web2 much

Makes sense... Yeah true about unit economics. Maybe if warps really kick off and Markle can make money from that it could justify subsidizing the fee.
