Warpcast *is* the app. 

There aren’t going to be lots of popular interfaces. 

Power laws still apply. 

All the important engagement mechanics happen in the UI.

It's too early to tell.
I definitely agree about power laws but it's still too early.

SMTP: 
Hotmail then Gmail

HTTP / HTML:
Netscape then IE then Chrome (Safari on Mobile, since iOS doesn't really allow any other browser).
Yahoo then Google

File Sharing:
FTP then BitTorrent then Cloud Storage

It's inevitable that the frontend will push the underlying protocol forward. It's a good thing that @pmarca and other browser makers pushed HTTP and related tech forward otherwise we'd only have image-less static pages.

The danger is what happened with IE. Thankfully Chrome came along.
Now mobile Safari is the danger.

I agree it’s possible, but it’s interesting that in each case the new dominant frontend ended up controlling the design of the underlying protocol (except maybe smtp)
