Founding something within a big company is a very different experience (although I haven't founded externally, yet)... VPs are your investors and they can just take everything away anytime with no explanation. VCs might not fund your next round but at least you have your runway and you can shop around.

My company Culture3 is a startup (18 months) within a ‘big enough’ 20-year old founder-led web2 org Bigger network, not worried about runway, but less focus from leadership Pros outweighs cons, but that would change if no longer founder led. Sorry you’ve felt that at Google
