Is this whole FT article written by Peter Thiel or what is this? Also, I 100% agree. We moved from funding research and by government (Manhattan Project, Apollo Missions), to funding by regulated monopolies (Bell Labs) to funding by tech giants (Xerox, Alphabet) to funding by VCs (OpenAI et al). Regulation, bloat and bottom lines (amongst other things) have really slowed things down. NASA forgot space exploration, Bell Labs, Xerox and Alphabet sat on breakthroughs until others capitalized on them. We outsourced building and shipping with atoms to foreign nations. We still build and ship bits but we're starting to outsource that to AI.
