We are building an open platform to quantify marine biodiversity using full metagenome analysis (ie we can see what organisms are living in an area, their relative abundance, and gain insights into their metabolic health). From that we can estimate fisheries and carbon outputs among other things

Somewhat analogous to voluntary carbon markets though I think biodiversity markets will be much larger (life produces oxygen, food, medicines, ecosystem resilience, tourism, as well as carbon)

There is a whole category of web3 called ReFi (regenerative finance) which is climate/nature focused. Many of those nature-based projects focus on local community empowerment as part of their project.
