2. In the Algerian city of Ain Sefra on December 19, 2016, snow fell for the first time in 37 years. It turned the barchans of the hot desert into “snowdrifts” for a day. The landscape looked quite surreal, the mixed sand and snow created a special “marble” effect. This is the second snowfall in the Sahara during the entire observation period. The first one was on February 18, 1979.
