i don't listen to a lot of podcasts personally (more of a reader than a listener); however, i've subscribed (on hypersub and in web2) for the same underlying reason

sometimes you relate to the content enough that you want to pay for it, without payment being required

you don’t have to pay to watch your favorite streamers or content creators

but people are always making donations.
