Everyone's wallet balance is public, but I have no idea what the total onchain net worth is of really anyone in my network.

I am surprised that, given how much crypto is financialized, this "total onchain net worth" number isn't more publicly flaunted

People don’t generally go around telling people how much they earn and the value of their investments and cash, either. It’s rude, for one thing. It makes other people feel like garbage. And it makes them a target for thieves. Is on-chain any different?

True. But it’s still just a hint. For some that may be all of their wealth. For others it could be only a drop in the bucket. It’s no different than the guy in the neighbourhood driving a Lamborghini to look cool. It’s probably leased & he’s prob leveraged up to the eyeballs but there’s no way to know.

People show off their BAYCs and other six figure NFTs though so they are already implicitly flaunting wealth
