For programmers, code is a very accessible means of exploring new ideas, which acts as a forcing function to prevent us from fooling ourselves into thinking we understand when we don’t. After all, it’s much easier to fool ourselves than it is to fool the computer. David Deutsch has this little quip, “If you can’t program it, you haven’t understood it.”
