I’ve had houseplants for over a decade and never had bugs indoors. If you water right and treat them with neem oil regularly you won’t have issues.

Another reason to wipe down leaves of a plant is to remove dust from the surface is to increase the light intake 

Many of my plants barely get enough light as it is so this practice helps maximize their efficiency
