I love the fact that people are earning meaningful amounts of money on here, but the argument that FC is better because “I earn much less on X for doing much more” is nonsense. The money comes from somewhere, and Farcaster’s funding will run out eventually. They’re subsidizing growth hoping users won’t need a cash incentive to join once the network hits escape velocity. Its a tried and true playbook but shouldn’t be conflated with the platform somehow being superior to X. Its a temporary feature. (P2P tipping is very different and IMO a much more interesting feature)

I think most of those arguments are memes, if not, then yeah it's really funny and not an argument. also the subsidized growth is just a boost to attract people some of them will later stay for other things.

Can’t subsidize new users forever though regardless of if they stay or not

yeah for sure, but it helps to create the initial user base so that when new guys come it's not a ghost town

I’m still on the fence about this. I think for a social network it might be effective because network effects are so important. But at the same time the quality of users is very low when they come seeking rewards. They almost look like bots which is why everyone thinks Farcaster has a “bot problem” when in reality they’re real people
