Email is actually a decentralized protocol.

In the old days, most organisations hosted their own email server. If one machine went down, everyone could still communicate.  

Why don’t people just host servers on their phones? Because if the phone turns off, you won’t receive incoming emails.

This is where corporate emails came in.

Now emails are controlled by big corporations so it turned centralized.

But I believe this will change soon.
