Anyone saying "nothing happened" during Trump's first term: 

This happened. He created a culture of openly supporting violence against political enemies, and its almost entirely on one side. I've never heard a progressive say they want Trump or other republicans to be killed. His supporters routinely tell any stranger with a camera and microphone that's exactly what they want for democrats.

just because you first saw something during an event, it doesn't mean that the event caused the thing. the event might just be what got your attention.

Fair point. The shameless rage baiting & racist dog whistles in rightwing media for decades prior to Trump is arguably more to blame.

do you think it's possible that maybe there were underlying socioeconomic issues that have sidelined parts of the population over long periods of time and have led them here? 

not for certain. but maybe?

Then we work together to solve the problems, not introduce lawlessness and authoritarianism.
