Very controversial, so I asked Google: Whether a hot dog on a bun is a sandwich is a matter of debate, with different organizations and individuals having varying opinions: National Hot Dog and Sausage Council The NHDSC says that a hot dog is not a sandwich, and that limiting the hot dog's significance by calling it a sandwich is like calling the Dalai Lama "just a guy". USDA The USDA considers a hot dog to be a sandwich because it's meat between two pieces of bread. Merriam-Webster Merriam-Webster says that a hot dog is a sandwich because the definition of a sandwich is "two or more slices of bread or a split roll having a filling in between". Ruth Bader Ginsburg Ginsburg concluded that a hot dog is a sandwich while on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert in 2018. Oscar Mayer Oscar Mayer declared that a hot dog is a sandwich in 2018. A dscout study 61% of people in the study said a hot dog is not a sandwich, while 39% said it was.
