Interesting conversation happening with this thread (linked below) re: mentorships:

I do agree that mentorships isn’t as necessary as it once was for early level entry - since we now have open access to information, different value systems “you can just do things”, rigid recruitment structures, etc.

But by this stage finding a mentor can be tricky. Ideally you would have already built relationships with mentors earlier in your career - people you’ve built trust, history, and rapport with. That can then guide you to 10x yourself, refine your goals, helping you navigate the nuance of career trajectories.

I guess at this stage most mid career professionals just go to “professional coaches” instead - which is where nuance and networks go to die. Mentors would naturally (!) introduce you to people, open doors, and create aligned opportunities.

Also a lot of interesting tensions bubbling up in this thread - some say that senior professionals are becoming risk averse and don’t want to take junior folks under their wings - and then on the flip side a lot of the comments say that young people just don’t respect people in their late careers lol

However over the past few days I’ve noticed some mid career individuals posting about wanting mentors, and this is where mentorship feels really crucial. It’s not just about leveling up - its understanding how and where to pivot, refining strategies, etc.
